Goals

  1. To produce a range of videos for use on the company’s social media channels that adhered to the brand’s clear aesthetic and brand guidelines.

  2. Each video focused on one of the brand’s unique whiskey products.

  3. The assets also aimed to convey the company’s attitude towards inclusivity and its products global attraction by using three groups of actors representing three major ethnic groups.

Context

The Balvenie is a Scottish range of single malt whiskies crafted by Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE. The Balvenie produce award winning whiskies and have developed new whisky making techniques, which have been adopted industry wide to critical acclaim. Each product is unique and very tasty, but all are rich, luxuriously smooth and underpinned by a distinctive honeyed character.

I was brought in with the responsibility of colour grading, video editing and putting together the final outputs for hand over to the client. These videos focusing on creating assets for the company’s social media accounts.

Approach

The footage was beautifully shot by videographer Justin Gardner across three locations with three groups of actors. Each shoot had its own unique feel, but aimed to show the products as a social catalyst. Each shoot also used the entire range of whisky produced by The Balvenie, this equated to a total of 18 videos that required editing.

With the volume of videos required for this project, this understandably required an efficient production pipeline, a strict sign off process and a collaborative process with the client to ensure all parties knew where we were in that pipeline.

Solution

We delivered 18 high impact short assets that could be sued as stories or posts within the brand’s social channels. These each had an aesthetic that conveyed the brand’s feeling of woody, honey and smokiness, while adhering to the brand’s guidelines.

These were well received on social media and gave the company enough content to post every other day for more than a month, while highlighting global market for the brand’s products and conveyed a strong sense of inclusivity.
