Context

Nokia is a Finnish multinational telecommunications, information technology, and consumer electronics corporation, one of the largest in the world. They aim to help build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.

I had the opportunity to help produce this 3D video to support Nokia announcing the most advanced fiber broadband platform in the world. Described as faster, smarter, greener broadband, the Nokia Lightspan MF is the industry’s first family of software-defined high-speed broadband services.

Approach

I was brought into the project by creative agency Workspace One at a late stage in the production, as previous motion designers were unable to deliver the video and had left the project. This meant that the project needed a fast turn-around time to deliver the advert in time for the product’s launch.

I worked closely with another super talented 3D motion designer, Vijay Ram who runs Studio Evo, to deliver this video for Nokia. He and I had to ensure that all the scenes we created would seamlessly transition into one another. We also had to ensure that the colours in our rendered outputs would match, to avoid extra time for a colour grading the video after exporting the scenes.

I was responsible for creating the opening scene, and the scenes that take place inside the unit itself.

Solution

The video was created in 3D software, Cinema 4D, in conjunction with Octane render engine (the same engine used for the opening sequence of the HBO TV series Westworld).

The video was well received by Nokia, with minimal amends. The video was successful in helping the company’s new project launch and gain traction within the software, hardware and digital communities.
